Local SEO in Miami
Underneath the map there is a second set of results, ranked by completely different signals. Owning the map pack does nothing for you down there. It is where people go when the three options above did not convince them — which, for anything expensive, is most of the time.
The problem
Page two is not a worse position. It is no position.
Local SEO and the map pack get treated as one thing and they are not. The map ranks on proximity, prominence and your profile. The blue links underneath rank on your site: what it says, how fast it loads, whether Google can read it at all. You can be first on the map and absent from the results directly below it, and most businesses I audit are exactly that.
The second mistake is scale. Almost everyone targets the city — “plumber Miami” — against every competitor in the county at once, and writes one page for it. Nobody searches like that when they have a real problem. They search for the thing plus where they are, plus the detail that makes their case theirs, and those searches have less competition and far better intent.
And none of it matters if the technical layer is broken. A site Google struggles to crawl, or that takes nine seconds on cellular data, does not rank no matter how good the writing is. That comes first, always — usually alongside the work on the site itself.
What is included
What actually gets done
Technical foundations before content
Indexing, crawl paths, internal links, speed on a phone, structured data and the things that quietly stop pages from ever being seen. Nothing ranks on a site Google has trouble reading.
Keyword work at neighbourhood scale
Research done per area and per job rather than per city, in both languages, and sorted by whether the search sounds like someone about to buy or someone reading.
The pages nobody bothered to write
A page for each real service and each area you genuinely serve, with something true and specific in it. If swapping the neighbourhood name leaves the page still making sense, it should not exist and I will not publish it.
Entity and citation consistency
Your name, address and phone identical everywhere they appear, and structured data that says who you are in a form a machine can resolve without guessing.
Internal linking that goes somewhere
Services link to the cases that used them and back again, so authority moves through the site instead of collecting on the homepage.
Reported in calls, not positions
Positions are the footnote. The report leads with enquiries, calls and which pages produced them, because that is the number that pays for the work.
How it runs
Four steps, every month
Find what is actually broken
A real crawl of the site plus the search data you already have. Most first months are two-thirds removing obstacles and one-third adding anything.
Decide what to compete for
A short list of searches worth winning, chosen for intent and reachability rather than volume. Volume you cannot win is a vanity metric.
Fix, then write
Technical work goes live first. Content follows in a sequence, one page at a time, each one aimed at a search we agreed was worth it.
Report what it produced
Enquiries and calls first, the pages that drove them second, positions last. Every month, in the same format, so you can compare.
How you know it is working
What lands in your report
- Enquiries and calls, attributed to the page and the search that produced them.
- Impressions and clicks per page from Search Console, which shows a page climbing long before it starts converting.
- Which queries you newly appear for — the first sign a topic is being picked up, and usually the earliest signal there is.
- Positions for the agreed searches, English and Spanish reported separately because they behave differently.
Local SEO is slow and I am not going to dress that up. Technical fixes can move things in weeks; content and authority take months, and the first two are usually the quietest. If you need the phone ringing this month, the honest answer is paid traffic while this is being built underneath — not a faster version of SEO, which does not exist.
Fit
Whether this is the right one
This is the right service when
- Your customers research before they call, and compare two or three options.
- You serve identifiable neighbourhoods, not just a point on a map.
- You can wait a few months for compounding rather than needing calls next week.
It is the wrong one when
- You need results within thirty days and have no budget for ads meanwhile.
- Your entire business is walk-ins and the map pack is genuinely the whole game.
- You want twenty city pages published this month with the names swapped.
If your problem is somewhere else
- Google MapsWhen the problem is the map pack: you are not in the three, or only in your own block.
- AI searchWhen the answer engines describe your category without ever naming you.
- Bilingual SEOWhen half of Miami searches in Spanish and only your English version exists.
- Web designWhen the traffic already arrives and the page it lands on is what loses it.
- Google & Meta AdsWhen you need the phone to ring this month, not in the sixth one.
Questions
Local SEO, answered straight
How is local SEO different from Google Maps optimization?
They are two different result sets ranked by different signals. The map pack ranks on proximity, your Google Business Profile and prominence. The organic links below it rank on your website: its content, its structure and its technical health. Working on one does very little for the other, which is why being first on the map and absent underneath it is such a common combination.
How long does local SEO take in a market like Miami?
Technical fixes can show movement in four to eight weeks. Content and authority usually take three to six months before they are worth reporting, and competitive categories in Miami-Dade take longer than that. The first two months are mostly invisible work, and I would rather say so now than explain it in month three.
Do you write separate pages for each neighbourhood?
Only where there is something true and specific to say. The test I use is simple: swap the neighbourhood name for another one, and if the page still makes sense it is a doorway page and it will do more harm than good. A page for an area gets published when there is a real client there, a real difference in the market, or a measurement I made myself.
Do I need to rank for "Miami" to get customers?
Usually not, and chasing it is the most common way local SEO budgets get wasted. City-wide terms are the most competitive and the least specific about intent. The searches that turn into work are the ones with the job, the area and the circumstance in them, and there are hundreds of those for every one city term.
Will you report rankings or actual leads?
Both, in that order of importance: enquiries and calls first, the pages that produced them second, positions last. Positions are a diagnostic, not the goal. A report that leads with rankings is usually leading with rankings because the leads part is not going well.
